Martinique - Caribbean

Like Guadeloupe, this island is owned by France. With 418,000 (july 2001 est.) French-speaking people, it is comparable in many respects to Guadeloupe. At present time, BIMI has no missionaries serving on this island. We are praying that we might reach this island with the Gospel and see some new churches established for the glory of God.

Martinique is one of the Windward Islands in the Caribbean Sea. It is a possession of France and relies heavily upon the country for its economy and stability. Although a beautiful paradise, it is also a volcanic island. About a century ago, a volcanic eruption killed 30,000 people.

A danger more serious than volcanoes also simmers beneath the surface of this island. Spiritual apathy is a constant danger to the 400,000 inhabitants of Martinique. With no independent Baptist missionaries at work in this nation, the spiritual need is great. Pray for a team of missionaries to respond to this open door with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
