Hurricane Harvey hit the United States Gulf Coast area with a vengeance and is now history. The damage has been extensive, and “catastrophic flooding” in the Houston area has created an enormous construction/restoration project that will take years to complete.
Just days later, on the heels of this major storm and flooding in Houston and the Gulf Coast, Hurricane Irma battered Florida. Though the damage in Florida was less than expected, there was flooding and wind damage in pockets across the states of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
These powerful hurricanes destroyed property here in the United States and disrupted the lives of thousands of people and numerous ministries in storm struck areas. Over the past few weeks, BIMI has been contacted by churches and individuals and asked to implement a Disaster Relief Fund to help the people and independent Baptist ministries in the areas of the storms. Initial disaster relief funding has already been sent to independent Baptist churches who are directly involved in providing immediate help and assistance to the people of the storm hit regions. Presently, funds that are being received will be used to clean, rebuild, and repair independent Baptist church buildings and ministry facilities.
