Dr. Roy Ackerle went to South America with his missionary parents as a lad of 12. After finishing public high school in Bolivia, he returned to the United States and entered Bob Jones College. He received his B.A. and worked on his M.A. degree as a graduate assistant teaching Spanish.
He started Youth for Christ meetings in Mexico City in 1947 and then returned to Ohio where he met and married Marjorie. In the early part of 1950, Roy and Marge with their infant daughter Linda left Ohio for Cuba where they taught in the Bible School and planted churches until they were forced out in 1961 by the Communist regime. Having started a radio ministry in Havana, Roy continued that daily radio ministry on over 100 stations in Central and South America for 25 years. He joined the faculty of Tennessee Temple College in 1970 and taught Spanish and Missions for five years.
Brother Ackerle serves with Baptist International Missions, Inc. as Latin America Ministries Representative. He is effective in Mission Conferences as speaker and presenter of Faith Promise giving. His conference ministry is enhanced by his singing, self-accompanied at either the piano or on the accordion.
